Other Key figures
Choir President – Phil Gibbs
OWMVC is pleased to announce Phil Gibbs as its new president, appointed in October 2025. Phil joined the choir in 1989 and has always sung in the Bass section. At that time, there was still one member from the formation of the choir in 1928, and a number who had joined in the 1930’s – so he knows many inspiring stories of their coming to Oxford and many more about the choir’s early activities and longer-term development.
Phil has always been a very well-liked, active and supportive member of the choir, having served on the committee and as the choir Chairman and Vice-Chairman. He has also been our long-serving stage-marshal, or ‘herder of cats.’ He takes an especial interest in the welfare of choir members.
Phil is also a keen hill-walker and has managed to combine his roles by leading a team of choir members to the top of Snowdon to sing on the summit.
